The closing of an era – Good-bye RPG Blog Alliance
Today I received an email in my inbox announcing that at the end of April the RPG Blog Alliance will cease operations.
While I am saddened to see the Alliance close down as it’s been the source of a lot of interesting reading over the years, I am also glad to see that the ‘man in charge’ is calling it now before he spends a lot more time doing something he’s just not happy doing.
Why was the RPG Blog Alliance important?
Many moons ago you would have been hard pressed to find a gaming blog (now there seems to be one on every Internet corner) and the Alliance gave us a home. The site listed the membership, provided twitter and RSS feeds of the posts from all of the membership so we could each be promoted a little bit and in turn find some other great reading as well.
The other major impact the Alliance had was the monthly Blog Carnival (now hosted here at of Dice and Dragons). If you’ve been a reader here for any length of time you’ve no doubt seen a post or two related to the Carnival (such as October’s – Things that go bump in the night), they provided a chance for a number of us to contribute to a single topic and then share those posts easily.
Yes, I’m definitely saddened to see the Alliance shut down but I’m thankful for the numerous individuals I met through it and for the countless blog posts that I’ve had a chance to experience that I might not have otherwise.
There’s still a couple of months before the site goes offline go please, so take a few minutes and stop by the home of the RPG Blog Alliance and check out the listing of members and the feed before it’s gone.
UPDATE: The RPG Blog Alliance website has been shut down.
May your dice roll well.
