RPG Carnival – Blast from the Past
The RPG Carnival has been rolling along for many years. We’ve traveled to many blogs, shared some tales, and enjoyed bits of wisdom from the many corners of the internet, ah yes, fun time.
So, for this month’s Carnival you’re invited, no challenged to find that nugget from the past, that post that you enjoyed, the bit of advice that got you over that rough spot in your game, or just one you had to shake your head at – yes, it’s time to go digging for that Blast from the Past!
So, how will this work? Simple, take a look at the RPG Carnival Archive page, and go digging, or maybe take a look and see if you’ve bookmarked a post from the past and dust it off. The goal here is to find something you’ve enjoyed, or, something you come across as you explore the years of hosts and post we’ve had.
Unlike other months there are two rules (or guidelines if you’d prefer) you’ll need to follow.
- You cannot select a post you wrote
- The post can’t be one from the last 12 months (we’re looking at the past after all)
Once you’ve found a post that you’d like to share, grab the link and write about it on your site. Why did you enjoy it? Maybe expand on the theme or add a bit of commentary.
The ultimate goal is help others find those gems out there and who knows, maybe we’ll find a topic or two we need to return to.
Don’t forget to post a link in the comments below (if it’s your first comment I do have to approve it so don’t get discouraged if you don’t see it right away) so others can stop by your site and see what you’ve wrote.
May your dice roll well!
In about half an hour as I write this, Campaign Mastery’s submission to the Blog Carnival (“Blind Alleys and Lost Treasures) is scheduled to drop. http://www.campaignmastery.com/blog/blind-alleys-and-lost-treasures-bc-2203/ will be the URL.
Scot, If you can supply the exact URLs of the lost roundup pages from an archived version of the Archives page (now there’s a spiraling reference!) I can try and recover the others using the Wayback Machine, too.
Mike, a great post, thank you for taking the time to put that together and sharing the process you used.
As for checking the archives to get the URLs, I’ll see what I can do – nothing like a good treasure hunt!
The process is the point, really – if you have that, you can find the results for yourself. If you can’t dig up the URLs, it makes the process harder but not impossible, as the post demonstrates – but it does mean that you need a little more luck on your side.
Hey, Scot – you obviously don’t check your twitterfeed very often because I’ve been sending you messages for a while now. So I thought I’d drop a comment here to get your attention.
The links that you’ve been sharing to your aggregator don’t work – they come up unknown domain.
Sorry about that Mike, I had reset my phone and forgot to add Dice and Dragons back into the twitter app.
Let me look into it.
Lest anyone else be concerned, all is working now 🙂
