How can I make of Dice and Dragons better?
I realize it’s been a while since my last post and you have my apologies for that.
Looking at my blog here and getting ready to get back into the swing of posting more frequently I realized that the most important consideration I need to make is “what do you want?”
So here’s your chance to give your ‘two cents’ about what you would like to see me tackle in the coming weeks and months. Is there a particular topic you’d like to see discussed? An area of gaming, either as a player or GM that you’ve struggled with?
Would you like to see more ‘tip’ type postings? The type where it’s just a few lines of helpful advice or would you like to see longer postings that go more in depth?
Would you like to see more online resources pointed out and reviewed?
Would you like to know more about software that can be adapted to our hobby?
How about the blog in general? Do you like the design? Have you found at least some of the postings useful? What was your favorite post? Your least favorite?
Please be constructive – don’t just say “I don’t like -fill in the blank-” and leave it. Tell me why you don’t like something, I can’t fix it if I don’t know what’s broke.
Finally, I’m going to make this commitment to you, I will read and consider every posting made. I can’t promise that I will get to every topic, make every change or move mountains but I will take your feedback seriously.
So, take a few minutes and let me know what you think, I’m looking forward to reading your comments.
May your dice roll well.
I would like to see discussions on tricky rules… like how to handle out of control diplomacy, or interpretations of alignment .
Also, I like links and discussions to software tools. I rely heavily on my laptop for everything in game and I always like to read about what other people are doing.
I too would like discussions on tricky rules. For example, I recently DMed a battle where the final baddie cast darkness on the PCs and fought with Blind-Sight. The situation was complicated because the Druid had a wolf companion with the scent ability. I’ve talked to a few DMs since and asked how they would run it, but discussions like that here would be great!
I’d also like to see more tips for DMs. I essentially taught myself how to play D&D and have since taught all of my players. I haven’t really had the chance to play with other DMs, which is the best way to learn. I’d love to see more of that here.
Tricky rule situations always make for interesting discussions as there is nearly an infinite number of possibilities as to the situations and the possible rulings. I think it would be worthwhile to start an exploration of them but I’ll need a bit of time to come up with the best method of addressing them.
Maybe an ‘Ask the GM lawyer’ series? Give everyone a chance to submit situations or ideas and then have ‘the lawyer’ look at the possible rulings – I need to give it some thought.
I do have an idea or two about software tools – I hope you find at least some of them interesting.
As for GM tips – I think that’s a safe bet and an area I hope that will generate some interesting discussions as well.
