Getting Organized to Create My New Campaign
Organization is the key to any successful campaign – not just in warfare but also in gaming.
In the past I’ve always grown the organizational scheme for my campaigns organically but this time I felt I needed to take a different path. In my last post, Knowing when to say goodbye, I stated that I was leaving Rylon behind and starting fresh so it only seemed natural for me to go about organizing things a bit more systematically this time.
I’ve used wikis in the past, both online and personal ones, and gave them some serious thought. I also considered using Google Docs, not just the document section but also Google Sites and using Notepad++ (a great program I use heavily elsewhere) for simple text notes.
In going through all these options it occurred to me I should settle on what I need rather than the tool – I know, it’s a strange idea. I decided that I needed a tool that would allow be to take notes anywhere, be highly searchable, and be usable anywhere on whatever platform I have available. So where did that thought process lead me?
I’ve used Evernote in the past for things like spell lists and for capturing ideas while I’m out but I’ve never used it for storing all of my campaign ideas, history, backgrounds, session notes, and, I think you get the idea. So I let the thought kick around in the back of my head for the last day or two and really couldn’t come up with a reason why it couldn’t work I just need to figure out a way to organize it all inside the tool.
That’s my task for the upcoming week – getting it all mapped out and with any luck I’ll be able to share it with you in next week’s post.
I do have to ask, what do you use for organizing your campaign materials?
May your dice roll well.
