CCL
It’s been a long time coming but this post marks number 250 – a milestone I had set many, many moons ago and am happy to see (finally). I thought to mark this particular moment I would take a look back at some of the posts I’ve done over the years.
- The beginning – I thought I would start off with mentioning my very first post on this blog, It wasn’t much of a start, in fact looking back on it I wish I could have had something with a bit more than a “hello world” type posting feel to it but you have to start somewhere.
-
The Funeral Procession – my first encounter idea posting of which there are currently 28. The idea behind the posts was simple – explore encounters without the need to have combat. I’ve always been concerned that when players hear “encounter” they immediately grab their dice, start selecting spells and prep for combat so I tried to give some ideas to twist things a bit. To date these still remain among my most popular posts.
-
A Guide to Session Notes – this is one of my favorite posts and was also a feature article for Johnn Four’s Roleplaying Tips Issue #266. The concept is simple, instead of just recording what happens during the session use your notes for both pre and post session planning and review – it’s advice that I should take myself as I work myself back into being a Game Master again.
-
Realms of Rylon – the Postmortem – okay, this is a bit of cheat as it was a short series of posts where I took a look back at my last campaign and pulled it apart. I looked at what was good, bad, and just ugly – it was difficult to write but also gave me a chance to look at where I can hopefully improve things during my upcoming campaign.
-
Establish a Rules Policy – is the final post I’ll mention here as I think it is one of those posts that regardless of what system you play it’s of value. Taking the time to set a policy means that there’s less chance that someone will walk away upset and a better chance for everyone to enjoy the game.
So there’s a few of my favorite posts and I would love to hear if you have a favorite one so please feel free to share them in the comments.
As for the future – I hope it doesn’t take me as long to get to 500 as it did to get to 250, though only time (and the non-gaming world) can tell. I do plan to revisit some old topics, update (and rerun) some of my older posts and share the trials of being a GM again (and how using technology helps or hurts).
Thanks for reading and I look forward to sharing with you in the future.
May your dice roll well.
